The force is co-chaired by the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Land Transport Authority.

It will pool resources and share expertise and information between the involved agencies.

In the first half of this year alone, there were 54 reported fires linked to PMDs, injuring 31 people. There were 52 such fires reported in the whole of last year.

Nearly 90,000 electric scooters had been registered in Singapore, with only 10 percent declared UL2272-compliant, a safety standard that will reduce the risk of fires.
