Malaysia shows strong hand against Muslim profaners

Malaysian police on March 9 announced that a citizen of the country had been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for profaning Muslim and Prophet Muhammad.

Head of the Malaysian national police Mohamad Fuzi Haryn said the man with a Facebook account nickname of “Ayea Yea” was order to spend 10 years and 10 months behind bars for 10 counts related to religious profanation and abuse of communications network. The sentence is described as among the heaviest in Malaysia in recent years.

Besides this man, three other social network users are also charged with profaning Muslim and Prophets Muhammad and racial discrimination.

The police chief also called on the people to refrain from using social networks or other communications ones to post or share those contents that may relate to religious and racial issues which are extremely sensitive in a multi-racial country like Malaysia.
