Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said Shinawatra did not cross the country’s border and urged Thai police to further investigate CCTV footage.

If Shinawatra had been found in Cambodia, she would have been sent back to Thailand immediately, he added.

One day earlier, Thai police revealed that two vehicles were allegedly used to transport Shinawatra to the eastern province of Sa Kaeo, which borders Cambodia. CCTV footage showed a woman inside one of the vehicles, but it could not be confirmed whether this was the ex-PM.

Last month, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stated there was no record of Shinawatra coming through his country.

Yingluck Shinawatra fled Thailand prior to the ruling in her rice subsidy scheme trial. She faces a maximum prison term of 10 years if convicted, source from the Vietnamplus.
