City voters have forwarded several pressing concerns to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council to be discussed at meetings during the 7th session from July 11 to 13, such as prolonged temporary residence status, environmental pollution and relocation of residents to make way for site clearance.
Among more than hundred comments forwarded for discussion to the HCMC People’s Council by voters, the main issues related to planning and compensations.
In Tan Binh District, voters continued to petition City authorities to petition the Government to review the golf course construction project in the area of the Tan Son Nhat airport, terming it as a waste and a hindrance.
Residents living in apartments at 350 Hoang Van Thu have asked for compensation under Government Decree 61 and requested a meeting with city leaders to learn more on the resettlement plan.
Voters temporarily residing in apartment blocks E, Bau Cat 2, Ward 10 complained that in the last seven years of living here, the quarters had become badly dilapidated.
District 12 voters complained of the wrong doings related to the 12.55 hectare project in Hiep Thanh Ward in which the compensation package was too low and the people had rejected the relocation plan which district authorities still enforced upon them.
They also said that the compensation for site clearance of the construction project of the Wastewater Treatment Plant for the Tham Luong-Ben Cat Canal was not satisfactory.
The voters added that in many other areas in the district the land was confiscated to turn into planned reserve areas when in fact the land was abandoned and cannot be used for cultivation or production.
The problem of infrastructure and transportation also caused much anxiety to several voters.
District 12 voters asked for clarification and explanation on why authorities allowed a large scale dyke project along the Saigon River Bank when the company involved was incompetent so the contruction pace is too slow.
Binh Chanh District voters reflected on the many road construction projects that are making it difficult for people to commute.
People also complained that some construction projects were seriously degrading roads and road surfaces on An Ha, Nguyen Van Bua Streets that now need urgent repairs.
Voters in Binh Chanh District named factories causing environmental pollution such as Duc Hoa Industrial Park, Hung Cuong Company Limited in Pham Van Hai Commune that are polluting Cho Dem River and threatening people's health.
Voters in District 8 also sent their concerns on the heavy contamination in the Tau Hu-Ben Nghe Canal.
People also raised concerns on the pollution levels caused by the wastewater treatment plants in Binh Hung Ward in Binh Chanh District; waste water discharge from the Duc Khai Company that is killing fish in Song Tan pond; and of the Gia Dinh Textile Company recklessly discharging stinking and polluted water into the river.
