Similarly, vegetable prices will drop VND1,000-12,000 a kilogram compared to the same period last year.
The board was speaking last night while receiving a delegation led by director of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade Pham Thanh Kien to conduct a field trip to the market.
Currently, green peel pomelo is paid VND70,000 a kilogram at orchards but priced only VND65,000 a kilogram at the market, mandarin is purchased at VND40,000 a kilogram but sold at only VND25,000. So many trades have suffered losses and been forced to leave the deposits they paid to farmers before.
The management board is now working with traders to keep an eye on goods supply and demand to stabilize prices in a timely manner. From now until Tet (the Lunar New Year festival), the board will take samples for pesticide residue testing and tackle violations.
Thu Duc Farm Produce Management and Trading Company said that the volume of vegetables and fruits transported to the market reach 1,334,373 million tons in 2018, down 48,677 tons over the previous year. The reduction was because the number of vegetable and fruit wholesale centers has been increasing in HCMC.
In preparation for Tet holiday, goods volume to Thu Duc market has gradually increased approximating 5,500 tons on January 30. It is expected to hit 6,700 tons on February 2.
