The first broke out at 3:30 am in an electrical shop in a three-story building in ward 13, District 5, asphyxiating a resident, La Lac, who died on the way to hospital. The goods in the shop were destroyed but their value is not known yet.

Five people were sleeping in the shop when the fire occurred but the others managed to escape.

It took firefighters over 30 minutes to control the blaze.

Another fire occurred at Kim Cuong Wood Co., Ltd in Cu Chi District, destroying 10 cubic meters of wood estimated at around VND26 million (US$1,300).

On December 30 and 31 six fires that caused two deaths were reported in the city.
