The festival also marked the 100th year since the late President had left his homeland for foreign shores to seek ways for national salvation (1911 – 2011).

Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Le Hoang Quan, Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Dua, Standing Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee and representatives from departments in Ho Chi Minh City were present at the launch ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Quan said that all departments at various levels must boost propaganda about climate change to raise people’s awareness. They also need to strengthen investigation on activities that pollute the environment as well as implement measures to improve the environment.

Fifty-one years ago, during the 1960 Lunar New Year festival, Uncle Ho started the first tree planting campaign nationwide. Since then, the campaign has become a tradition of the Vietnamese people.
