Traceable Dong Thap agricultural products enters HCMC

The Department of Industry and Trade of Dong Thap Province in the Mekong delta and its counterparts in Ho Chi Minh City co-held a seminar on “Building and developing traceable major agro-products chains”.

Dong Thap province has supplied various agricultural products to HCMC. For years, the province has assisted farmers in consuming produces as well as connect farmers and cooperatives, enterprises, supermarkets for a close food supply chain.
Especially, consumers can trace back the origin of eggs in supermarkets and giant food stores in HCMC; therefore, consumption of these commodities is stable.
As per the Department of Industry and Trade in HCMC, local supply of agricultural products just meets 15 percent of demand. Dong Thap provides duck, eggs, fish and fruits. Farmers are worried of price fluctuation while consumers pay concern to food safety.
Accordingly, HCMC in coordination with Dong Thap has implemented traceable products. As per cooperation, HCMC will have frozen warehouse in wholesale markets and measures how to trace back products’ origin.
