The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has approved widening of Phan Dinh Giot Street, the main road leading to Tan Son Nhat Airport, to ease the constant gridlock around Hoang Van Thu Park.

The Urban Traffic Management Division No.1 proposes to enlarge the stretch from Military Zone 7 Stadium to Pho Quang Street by reducing the size of the sidewalk and cutting down around 20 trees.

Other roads to the airport will also be expanded to reduce pressure on Phan Dinh Giot.

A section of Cong Hoa Street turning right into Thang Long will be widened by two meters.

At the end of Thang Long Street, where it forms an “L” with Hau Giang Street, the department will install mirrors rather then broadening the road.

The work, to cost VND1.2 billion (US$67,000), is expected to be finished in November.
