Health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have discovered in samples of rice vermicelli some content of Oxalic acid, which is an industrial chemical that was banned for use as a food additive by the Ministry of Health.
The Vietnam Food Administration carried out tests of the samples and announced the test results on November 1.
The Department of Food Safety in HCMC took samples from households in Districts 6, Thu Duc, Tan Phu and Cu Chi to find that Tinopal, Oxalic acid, and other banned additives and Oxalic acid was present in these food products.
Health authorities detected in four out of twelve samples a high content of Oxalic acid and have now sent their report to the Department of Industry and Trade.
