Pilot project using smart payment bus card launched in HCMC

Public Transport Management Center in Ho Chi Minh City cooperated with partners and relevant agencies to officially run the pilot automatic payment bus card  called UniPass in the areas of Ho Chi Minh City.

Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center Mr. Tran Chi Trung said that the Party Committee and People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City have been building contents focusing on resources to develop and modernize management and operation of public passenger transport, upgrade infrastructure, invest and install the operating monitoring systems, deploy smart ticket usage in public passenger transport in the city before 2020, aiming to carry out the program to reduce traffic congestion and accidents in period 2016- 2020. 

Type A- ticket, QR code and Vietbank cards following standard EMV will be used for the pilot project.

Among the proposed contents above, the development and application of the automatic payment heading to application for Metro, express bus, waterway bus, etc are considered one of the important traffic solutions. 

Zion Joint Stock Company and Vietnam Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Vietbank) have been financing the  project in the pilot phase.

Type A- ticket, QR code and Vietbank cards following standard EMV will be used for the pilot project.

Accordingly, Zion Joint Stock Company paid investment for nine bus routes No. 86, 50, 52, 55, 30, 93, 59, 68 and 69 for the first phase in the beginning of March, 2019.

Vietbank will invest in seven bus lines No. 10, 18, 28, 45, 54, 91 and 150 for the second phase from the beginning of July, 2019.
