At a meeting with Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (Samco) on the relocation progress of Mien Dong and Mien Tay (Eastern and Western) Coach Stations, Mr. Thang urged relevant agencies to quickly complete site clearance for the projects.

Building coach stations and parking lots is among solutions to reduce traffic jam in HCMC now. So the city needs to quickly implement these projects, he says.

Samco director general Tran Quoc Toan said that the Mien Dong station would be relocated from Binh Thanh district to District 9 where two households have still refused to remove for the project.

The new station is estimated to cost VND733 billion (US$32.2 million). Samco has approved technical infrastructure part. It is now building temporary roads to the project’s site, setting up construction drawing and environment impact report.

Work is expected to start on the first phase of the station next year and complete in the following year with four zones for yards, public and auxiliary works; bus stations; transit warehouses and goods trading and commercial services.

To Mien Tay Coach Station, the company is now working with the management board of the city’s southern area and the People’s Committee in Binh Chanh district to determine the boundary of the station and establish a 1.500 scale plan for the 24.33 hectare project.

The estimated compensation of VND1 trillion (US$44 million) is still waited for approval by the city People’s Committee. Site clearance and compensation works are scheduled to complete by the end of 2017 and the first phase of the Mien Tay station will be built in 2018.
