Nearly VND3,300 billion attracted for scientific-technological purposes in HCMC

118 businesses in Ho Chi Minh City were able to raise VND3,300 billion (US$142 million) for scientific-technological purposes, VND889 billion ($38.3 million) of which has been used for re-investment in scientific-technological activities.

That was announced by  the HCMC Department of Science and Technology announced in the summary conference for the first six months of 2019.

In the first two quarters of this year, the HCMC Department of Science and Technology (DoST) issued the scientific-technological business certificate for six companies, making the total quantity of this type in HCMC reach 83.

In this period, the agency was able to either directly or indirectly support 100 innovative startup projects. In addition, its program SpeedUp received and approved 10 out of 23 startup projects while offering financial aid worth VND3.9 million ($167,800) totally for 4 in 7 suitable projects.

As to technology transfer and supply-demand connection activities, the information portal Techport, operated by the Center for Statistics and Science & Technology Information, updated 703 new technologies and devices. It also organized 35 conferences to analyze latest technological trends, attracting more than 800 participants.

Meanwhile, the department evaluated 35/59 scientific-technological projects, 12 of which were concluded being 100 percent applicable. Thanks to active research activities, HCMC had 17 articles and 13 articles published in domestic and international journals respectively.
