Nearly 8,000 people yesterday participated in a march for victims of Agent Orange (AO) at Dam Sen Park organized by the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Ho Chi Minh City (HAVA) in response to the Day for Vietnamese AO Victims on August 10.
Speaking at the event, the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange’s President Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh stressed that the march has humane and social meaning contributing to raise the community’s awareness and calling for people to join in soothing the pain of AO victims.
The march manifested the strong support of all Vietnamese people to the justice for AO victims, especially Tran To Nga, a Vietnamese French woman files dioxin lawsuit against the US companies which provided the dangerous chemicals to the US troop in the war in Vietnam.
Major General Tran Ngoc Tho, Deputy President of the Vietnam Agent Orange/ Dioxin Association and Chairman of HCM City's Agent Orange/ Dioxin said that for 10 years, HAVA has spent nearly VND14 billion (US$641,900) to take care of 5,000 AO victims.
The amount is spent on building charity house for AO victims, fixing dilapidated houses of AO victims, giving scholarships to AO victims’ children and wheelchairs to disabled children.
