High tidal waters on Sunday damaged dykes in some areas in Ho Chi Minh City, flooding hundreds of houses and causing traffic jams.
The HCMC Flood Control and Prevention Committee has worked with local authorities and residents to reinforce the broken dykes with sand bags.
However, the situation is getting worse. In districts 6, 8, 12, Thu Duc, and Hoc Mon, hundreds of hectares of cultivated and residential areas were submerged under water.
Traffic jams also occurred as hundred of buses, trucks and motorbikes were stuck in flooded streets in the city.
