HCMC’s leader receives Australian Governor-General

Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC Nguyen Thanh Phong on May 25 hosted a reception for Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove on the occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic ties and 20 years of defence cooperation between the two countries.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Chairman, Nguyen Thanh Phong, as of April, Australia had 182 projects worth US$188 million in HCMC.
Bilateral trade between HCM City and Australia reached US$915 million, while HCMC received 273,000 Australian visitors. Australia has been among top 10 countries with the largest number of international tourist arrivals to HCMC over the past years.
The city authorities highlighted Australia’s support and development cooperation between the two sides, including Cao Lanh Bridge project which will be opened on May 27 with non-refundable aid from Australian government.
He also hoped Australia will continue support HCMC in the fields of education and high-tech agriculture
On the same day, the Governor-General visited peacekeepers and officers at the level-2 field hospital at Military Hospital 175 and attended a ceremony marking the 45th anniversary of Vietnam - Australia diplomatic ties at HCMC Opera House.
