The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed the People’s Committee to rebuild the downgraded Nhi Thien Duong 1 Bridge in District 8.

The new bridge will be built two meters from Nhi Thien Duong 2 Bridge. Some old designs such as banisters and lampposts will be kept unchanged to record a historic phase of the city’s establishment and development.

Total investment capital is estimated at VND163.3 billion (US$7.32 million) and construction is expected to complete in ten months.

According to the department, Nhi Thien Duong 1 built in 1925 connects Tung Thien Vuong Street in District 8 with Highway 50 in Binh Chanh district, which is the main route to travel from inner HCMC to Can Giuoc district in Long An province.

Nhi Thien Duong 1 is among main bridges of HCMC but unable to accommodate trucks of from 1.5 tons to higher putting traffic pressure on the Nhi Thien Duong 2 Bridge.
