A project to upgrade and expand Ho Chi Minh City’s Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Van Troi streets is running seriously behind schedule.
The upgrade and expansion project of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Van Troi has lagged behind schedule for several years.
The government invested a large sum of money to carry out the upgrades, yet for the past several years, little progress has been made.
It took two years to finish the ground clearance and more time than expected to upgrade the Cong Ly Bridge and other sections.
HCMC’s Construction Company No.9 finished the first division of the project between Dien Bien Phu and Hoang Van Thu streets, and an expansion of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Van Troi streets in August, 2007.
However, the second stage of the project has been repeatedly delayed because of an environmental sanitation project in progress along Nhieu Loc and Thi Nghe streets.
The sanitation project is also facing obstacles and lagging behind schedule.
From July to the middle of October, the HCMC Construction Company No.9 has succeeded, however, in completing two thirds of a project between Dien Bien Phu Street and the Cong Ly Bridge, with expectations to finish in December this year.
The company says it is still unable to carry out work on a section of the Cong Ly Bridge to Hoang Van Thu as it must wait for the sanitation project to finish. Representatives said they do not have a clear idea of when that will be.
The expansion of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Van Troi streets linking Tan Son Nhat Airport and the downtown area is one of the city’s major transport projects. Work on the VND852 billion, 3.8-km project began in 2005.
