According to the municipal Department of Investment and Planning, the city needs VND810 trillion ($35.6 million) for this. Relocating the families will require about VND25,748 billion while the current budget is only VND2,508 billion and the remaining is from social contribution.
The city’s Department of Construction said that 52 urban renewal projects need fund for relocation and resettlement and infrastructure construction in small canals. Ho Chi Minh City has counted at least more than 13,827 shanty houses along its canals therefore the program may need VND22 trillion.
At present, seven projects are in the middle of relocation with 526 houses and investment of VND987 billion. It is scheduled to complete in 2018. Other eighteen projects with 7,910 houses are waiting for approval with relocation fund of VND12,447 billion. Districts are preparing capital for relocation of remaining twenty-seven projects.
