HCMC marks Malaysia’s National Day

The Vietnam Union Friendship Organization (VUFO) and the Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam – Malaysia Friendship Association yesterday celebrated the 62nd anniversary of Malaysia’s National Day (on August 31, 1957- 2019).

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the HCMC’s Vietnam – Malaysia Friendship Association Mr. Tran Ngoc Son said that the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia has continued to be strengthened, strongly developed in many fields since the two states officially established the diplomatic relations in 1973.

Malaysia has become one of the leading key partners of Vietnam in the region with good and reliable political relations. Besides that, the country also shares the common strategic benefits.

Last year, the two-way trade turnover reached US$ 11.5 billion, an increase of more than 13 percent compared to 2017. As of April 2019, Malaysia had total 586 investment projects in Vietnam with total registered capital of about US$ 12.4 billion and vice versa Vietnam had 19 investment projects in Malaysia with its total investment of about US$ 1.53 billion.

Acting Consul General of Malaysia in the city Mr. Raja Hanizam Putra expressed his pleasure at the tripled trade growth between the two countries in the past 10 years which is expected to achieve US$ 15 billion by 2020.

He also believed that the relationship would be closer and stronger in the coming years.
