HCMC launches int'l competition to find shape for innovation district

The HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture yesterday announced an international competition to seek ideas for the planning and development of a highly interactive innovation district in the eastern part of the city.

The competition aims to seek ideas for developing the eastern part of HCMC into a creative and highly interactive economic area. Economic activities will focus on high level education and training, hi-tech research and production, finance-service-commerce center and supply of economic activities for HCMC region connectivity.

The Planning and Architecture Department will receive documents to attend the preselection round from May 2. Two months later, five short-listed ones will be announced to attend a planning idea competition. There will be one First Prize worth VND4.5 billion (US$194,000), the Second Prize worth VND2 billion and 3-5 consolation prizes worth VND400 million ($17,000) each.

Businesses in the area will closely connect together to increase their products' added value and more benefit themselves and the community.

The area will be the place for experts, scientists, high quality human resources and residents to live, work and perform creative activities. It is expected to become the country’s largest startup center in association with smart and sustainable city factor.
