Truong Sa symbolic lighthouse yesterday was inaugurated in Ho Chi Minh City’s Book Street on Nguyen Van Binh Street with the witnesses of thousands of residents and visitors.
The lighthouse’s structure is 7.4 meters in height and 1.4 meter in diameter and made from a mixture of white glass fiber, black sand and sand from Vietnam’s Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Paracel and Spratly islands).
The lighthouse is designed with sub-terraneous fibers that sparkle in the shape of the maps of Paracel and Spratly, and words “ Paracel and Spratly islands belong to Vietnam” and seven doves representing Vietnamese people’s aspirations for peace. On its top is a revolving light at night like a real lighthouse.
Hoa Binh Corp. and Tri Viet (First News ) Publishing House established the lighthouse to symbolise Việt Nam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands.
Director of First News Nguyen Van Phuoc said that the lighthouse is hoped to connect and reminds residents in HCMC and visitors of the two islands.
On the occasion a photo exhibition themed "Spratly island-where we go" of reporter Nguyen My Tra with 60 photos of the islands has been displaying.
The event was held by the city Department of Information and Communications in order to share the love for the country’s islands.
The exhibition is also an expression of gratitude to soldiers who have been devoting their youth to protect the country’s islands sovereignty and peaceful life for every people.
