HCMC celebrates 45th anniversary of Vietnam-UK diplomatic ties

A ceremony celebrating the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-UK diplomatic relations was held at the HCM City Opera House on October 26.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People Committee Le Thanh Liem stressed that the bilateral ties have developed rapidly in various fields after the UK-Vietnam Strategic Partnership signed in 2010.
The relationship between the UK and HCMC has also gained many achievements in sectors of trade, investment, education and tourism.
The UK has 146 projects worth US$555 million and ranks 11th among 100 countries and territories investing in HCMC.
In 2017, the bilateral trade turnover reached US$795 million. More than 125,000 British visitors came to HCMC.
For his part, Lan Gibbons, Consul General of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to HCM City, hoped that the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and British Business Group Vietnam will continue to receive the support from the municipal government, attracting more the UK’s investors to the city.
The British Council will also continue to promote the UK’s arts, culture and language to residents in HCM City in particular and Vietnamese people in the country in general.
