HCMC celebrates 124th birth anniversary of late President Ton Duc Thang

HCMC leaders present at the ceremony included Le Thanh Hai, Politburo member and secretary of the Party Committee of HCMC; Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee; Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, member of the Party Central Committee and deputy secretary of the City Party Committee; Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, chairwoman of the Municipal People's Council; and Duong Quan Ha, chairman of the HCMC Fatherland Front Committee, together with Vietnamese heroic mothers and local people.

Nguyen Huy Can, chairman of HCMC Labor Union stressed that the late President Ton Duc Thang was the first Vietnamese from a working class who joined the Proletarian Revolution and participated in the struggle to support the Soviet Union, after the victory of the Russian October Revolution.

He was also one of the pioneers propagating Marxism and Leninism to workers and devoted all his life to the cause of national liberation for people’s happiness. HCMC was the first place in the country that the Union of working class was established by the late President.

Earlier, a delegation of municipal leaders led by Le Thanh Hai offered incense and flowers to the statue of late President Ton Duc Thang at his museum.

In addition, Ton Duc Thang Museum has cooperated with Con Dao Relic Management Board to open an exhibition titled ‘Con Dao Prison-1930-1945’.

More than 130 photos, documents and artifacts honoring people who sacrificed their lives for the Party and nation, and presented moral revolutionary examples, are being displayed at the museum from now until February 28.

Also being held is a stamp exhibition marking the late President’s 124th birth anniversary, August Revolution and National Day (September 2), which opened at the Commemorative Area of late President Ton Duc Thang in My Hoa Hung Commune of Long Xuyen City in An Giang Province on August 17. The event will run until September 4.

Various cultural activities such as music performances, mobile screenings, camping, free medical treatment for the poor, seminars on Uncle Ton, and granting of scholarships to disadvantaged students are being organized throughout An Giang Province on the occasion.
