HCMC approves design contest of downtown park

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved a design competition for construction planning at a scale of 1:500 for September 23 Park in downtown city.

Design contest for makeover of 16.07 hectare downtown park includes zoned area of expanded September 23 Park surrounded by such streets as Pham Ngu Lao, Tran Hung Dao, Quach Thi Trang Square in Ben Thanh Market, Le Loi, and Nguyen Trai.
The zoning design must connect in harmony with neighboring districts especially the Ben Thanh Market and Bui Vien, Pham Ngu Lao streets which are dubbed the city’s ‘backpacker area’.
Moreover, the design must ensure connecting underground areas for parking purpose as well as meet the criteria for harmonious arrangement of greenery, lakes and public space in contribution to drainage for the park in the rainy season and sidewalks surrounding the park.
Furthermore, park scenery design writers must take heed of the district’s construction planning at a scale of 1:2000 and the regulation for space and landscape architecture of the downtown areas of 930 hectare to ensure both living quality of residents in the areas and harmonious transition from parking lots, central station to parks.
Additionally, contest entrants must divide cleverly the public traffic areas and commercial areas for tranquility.
The municipal People’s Committee also noted that contest participants must pay attention to major traffic connection that should not make impact on traffic flow in the areas. It had best connect traffic in the park with streets Nguyen Thi Nghia and Do Quang Dau to make sure that traffic will flow smoothly.
More importantly, infrastructure technique must calculate the floor level and drainage measures for the park and neighborhood, underground lighting, energy saving measures and tree planting.
