The ceremony was attended by HCMC Party Chief Nguyen Thien Nhan, People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong and other city leaders and representatives of nearly 800 business people from many fields.
Chairman of the association Chu Tien Dung said that the honored ones are those with outstanding achievements in the business community in HCMC, they are always dynamic and innovative in every fields.
The 99 businesses and 100 entrepreneurs get a revenue of VND250 trillion (US$19.71 billion) a year, pay VND20 trillion in taxes, provides 130,000 jobs and contributes VND500 billion to social affair activities.
Mr. Dung said that HCMC has 361,000 registered businesses and 250,000 individual business households. The city has always fulfilled its budget revenue targets with great contribution by business community.
Congratulating the honored ones at the ceremony, HCMC Party Leader Nguyen Thien Nhan believed that the class of business people in the early 21st century will excellently succeed and promote the tradition of over 300 year creation of Saigon-Gia Dinh and 30 years of Doi moi (renewal) by the Party, State to vigorously develop HCMC.
Repeating the important role of business people in the country and the city’s development, Mr. Nhan affirmed city leaders’ responsibility and determination to accompany them for the city and the country.
HCMC will continue organizing meetings and talks between city leaders and businesses to listen to them, solve difficulties and find out opportunities for them to move on for the city’s faster development.
In addition, the city will concentrate on administrative reform to better serve residents and businessses and further assist Business Association of HCMC and other associations to operate more efficiently.
