The Ho Chi Minh City administration has decreed that agricultural products and food can be sold wholesale only at Hoc Mon, Thu Duc and Binh Dien markets and not elsewhere in the city.
Only markets, supermarkets and shopping malls, convenience shops, and households that have licenses and food hygiene and safety certificates can continue to retail these products.
The decision, aimed at controlling the origin as well as the hygiene and safety of farm produce and food sold in the city, will take effect on August 10.
Selling these products along streets or even outside the wholesale markets has been prohibited.
In the longer term, the wholesale markets would be required to develop their own brands and put their labels on products before dispatching to the inner city for consumption.
