City leaders visit heroic mothers and national heroes

Mr. Hai expressed deep gratitude to the heroic mothers for their great contribution and sacrifice towards the cause of national liberation and reconstruction. He wished them good health and a long life, and asked the local authorities to take care of the mothers and help improve their lives.

On the same day, Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, paid a visit to the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, Major General Nguyen Van Thuong, who was an intelligence officer and had suffered barbaric torture in the hands of the US army who had cut off his legs.

Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, Nguyen Van Thuong, Phan Van Dien and seven other wounded soldiers are in Ho Chi Minh City to get free prosthetic limbs by experts from Thailand. The procedure cost of VND900 million (US$42,000) is being financed by Advanced International Joint Stock Company and Germany’s Otto Bock Prosthetics Company.

Nguyen Van Dua, deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, offered gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers, Lai Thi Khuynh, Pham Thi Quynh and Nguyen Thi Be in Binh Thanh District on July 26.

Delegations of officials in the City also visited and presented gifts to heroic mothers in Districts 1, 3, 4 and Cu Chi District.

Duong Quan Ha, chairman of the HCMC Fatherland Front Committee, on the same day chaired a conference on the task of taking care of Vietnamese heroic mothers in HCMC.
