City Leaders Meet Lao Students for Traditional New Year

Ho Chi Minh City’s leaders held a cordial gathering on Sunday with 120 among the 150 Lao students who are studying in the city on the occasion of their Bunpimay traditional New Year Festival.

HCMC Party chief Le Thanh Hai, on behalf of city leaders, sent congratulations to the Lao people. Addressing the Lao students, Mr. Hai said, “HCMC leaders wish you will continue making efforts in study to build Laos into a prosperous country, as well as help further intensify the two country’s special friendship and cooperation relationship.”

HCMC Party deputy chief Nguyen Van Dua, City Vice Chairman Nguyen Trung Tin, Mr. Phan Xuan Bien, chief of the city panel of propaganda and training and chairman of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Association in HCMC also attended the gathering together with Mr. Simangkhala Souvanhnakhyly, deputy principal officer of the Lao Consulate General.

The delegates joined a wristband ceremony, a Lao traditional New Years activity in which friends and families tie threads around each other’s wrists to wish them good luck, health and happiness.
