City dwellers join hand to bring loving Tet to disadvantaged people

The most remarkable feature of this year’s Tet holiday ( the Lunar New Year) in Ho Chi Minh City is that authorities, sectors, benefactors and all walks of life have joined hand to bring a loving Tet to disadvantaged people.

According to Director of the city’s Department of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs Le Minh Tan, VND1,300 billion ($55,961,320) was spent to take care of poor and near-poor households and top social welfare beneficiaries while authorities had planned around VND800 billion.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hang in district 8 and her friends dropped by Tumor – Hematology Ward of the Children Hospital gifted child patients in the country’s special holiday. Not earn high income for herself and two kids and live in her relative’s house, Mrs. Hang still wants to do something for unfortunate people.
She said her heart was broken on thinking long and hard about sufferings including injection pain, surgery scar, high fever, vomiting which cancer children in the hospital must endure during treatment process but they are brave to fight against the disease; hence she felt bound to do something for poor kids.
When Tet holiday is approaching, Mrs. Hang has initiated the program “ Xuan yeu thuong-Tet am tinh” (Loving Spring), calling her friends to bring happiness to cancer small kids. The program has gifted 135 children.
Student Tran Thi Thuy of the Law University in Ho Chi Minh and thousands of students also desire to bring good Tet holiday to disadvantaged people and. They have voluntarily taken part in the Volunteer Spring 2019.
They joined hands in charity deeds including making Tet card to soldiers, wrapping thousands of banh chung - a savory square sticky rice cake- as a gift for families prioritizes under social welfare policies, workers and students who have not return their hometown in Tet holiday, poor students and homeless children.
This year, more than 2,000 poor patients in hospitals, senior people and over 2,000 kids in charity houses plus over 1,000 students welcoming Tet holiday in HCMC have been presented gifts .
Local administrations in 24 district also pay heed to taking care of poor people in the country’s holiday. deputy party secretary in district 8 Do Huu Tri said that the administrators spent total VND33 billion on gifts for people in social welfare policies this year meanwhile party secretary of district 6 Le Van Tan said that nearly the administrators allocated nearly VND32 billion for gifts for all families in the top welfare brackets.
Government of district 7 presented 460 gifts to special families and 700 gifts for poor and near-poor households. Moreover, 20 elderly people who are over 100 years old received VND3 million gifts. District authority paid visits to destitute families who are living in resettlement areas.
Lai Thi Mai Huong from Nha Be District People’s Committee said that in addition to gifts, administrators dropped by houses in the district to listen to residents’ opinions.
The city not only took care of beneficiaries of social welfare policies but also other class of life including those from distant regions to resettle in the city , said Mr. Tan, in order to bring a loving Tet holiday to them.
