On behalf of city leaders, Nguyen Thanh Phong, the newly elected chairman of Ho Chi Minh, yesterday visited senior people, poor people, ethnic minority people, and families of soldiers who stationed in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and border guards in HCMC’s Can Gio District on Tet holidays (Lunar New Year) occasion.
Dropping by the house of 100 year old woman, Thai Thi Gioi in Tam Thon Hiep Commune, the city chairman wished her to have good health and longevity. Mr. Phong gave her the Prime Minister and the Party’s gifts expecting that she will be good example for young generations.
Leading the delegation to visit poor household of Doan Thi Phuong in Can Thanh Town and poor ethnic minority household of Kim Thanh My in Tam Thon Hiep Commune, Mr. Phong encouraged them to overcome their difficulties.
Ms. Kim Thanh My’s husband had traffic accidents, she must go out to sell lucky lottery tickets while her two children are students; accordingly she borrowed over VND22 million (US$987) from the Bank for Social Policy. After knowing her meager economic condition, the fund “Chung mot tam long” (Sharing the same Heart) decided to cover her debt so that her families can enjoy Tet holidays fully.
On the same day, Mr. Phong visited the house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, mother of soldier Nguyen Tan Thanh who stationed in marine platform DK1/2 I in Truong Sa Archipelago. Mr. Phong expected the family to encourage Thanh to do his duty well for the nation’s sovereignty.
The chairman also wished soldiers and border guards in Can Gio District highly appreciating their mission in protecting the country’s sea, adding that border guards to continue their duties well to protect the country and help residents in Can Gio Districts.
Before, the delegation led by Mr. Phong burnt incense the statue of Uncle Ho and martyrs & paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Rung Sac Martyrs' Cemetery in Can Gio District.
