CEP fund helps over 2.9 mil poor workers, laborers

The Capital Aid Fund For Employment of The Poor (CEP) has supported over 2.9 million poor workers and laborers since its establishment in 1991, said the fund representative at a meeting on October 30 to mark its 25th anniversary.

From the initial amount of VND460 million (US$20,612), for 25 years of operation, the fund now has capital of VND2,771 billion (US$124,168,478) to support over 2.9 million poor workers with the sum of VND27,000 billion, raising awareness of saving money in poor people with total extra -saving money of nearly VND1 trillion.

Additionally, the fund directly takes care of around 900,000 poor members by giving scholarships to their children, building houses, providing urgent capital, and offering employment. The fund has 6,000 new members.

Ms. Thu, deputy chairwoman of HCMC People's Committee expected the fund should focus on training its human resource; investing more services to meet new demand. Moreover, it should pay attention to workers in industrial parks and export processing zones.

On the occasion, the fund was awarded flag of merit of the government and the municipal People’s Committee gave certificates of merit to 27 members who are active in working for the fund activities.

The event was attended by Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Vo Thi Dung.
