Canadian PM visits Ho Chi Minh City

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong yesterday talked with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the City Hall  yesterday evening.

On behalf of the city People's Committee and more than 10 million HCMC residents, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong warmly welcomed PM Justin Trudeau's official visit to Vietnam and attendance in the APEC Vietnam 2017.
During his visit to the city, Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong affirmed that the visit would strongly contribute to boost further multifaceted relationships between Canada and Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular.
PM Justin Trudeau expressed his pleasure to return to Vietnam and said that  he visited Vietnam as a foreign tourist 22 years ago when he was a student
The Canadian PM affirmed the two nations have had a large potentialities and chances for cooperation, so he desired to strengthen further trade and investment relations between Canada and Ho Chi Minh City. 
Vietnam is the biggest trade partner of Canada in ASEAN region while Canada ranks the 14th investor among 112 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 149 projects worth US$ 5.28 billion. 
Since 1990, Canada has provided Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam with total value of more than US$ 800 million.
On the same day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), met with the city’s businessmen and paid a visit to Ton Duc Thang University.
