Binh Dien spring flower festival 2018 opens

Saigon Trading Corporation (Satra) last night opened Binh Dien spring flower festival 2018 at Binh Dien trading complex, District 8 over 13,000 square meters with 215 stalls.
That is the fifth consecutive year of the festival lasting until February 15 or the last day of the year of Rooster.
Stalls are arranged alongside Dem Market riverbank selling flowers and ornamental plants. In addition, there are 20 stalls showcasing Tet products including  jam, confectionary, fruits and processed food.
According to the management board of Binh Dien wholesale market, the volume of goods to the market during ten nights near the Tet holiday increases 20-25 percent over normal.
That  might surge 50-60 percent reaching 3,500-3,800 tons a night on two peak days, the 27th and 28th day of the 12th lunar month. Pork and vegetables supply will double, fruit quintuple while sea fish will gradually reduce because fishing boats have stopped operation.
Prices will not fluctuate much except some products most consumed during the Tet holiday namely mackerel, snake head fish, shrimp, pork, chicken and fruits such as mandarin, pomelo, mango, watermelon and apple.
The prices of some flowers such as rose, lily, tuberose, pink and gladiolus might double or triple normal.
Binh Dien wholesale market now works with authorized agencies to take samples of vegetables and fruits for pesticide residue testing and intensify coordination with traders at the market to supervise goods supply and demand, stablize prices during the peak shopping time on the 28th and 29th day in the last month of the lunar year.
