Alcohol abuse among early Vietnamese adolescents

Lawyer Tran My Hoa from the city’s Lawyer Association said that 34 percent of Vietnamese adolescents at the age of 14 – 17 consume alcohol.

Moreover, the study reported that the rate of people aged from 18 to 21 using liquors is 57 percent. Participants in a seminar “Alcohol – Hazards of families" held  by the Women Union in Ho Chi Minh City said that more younger Vietnamese people consume alcohol.
Medical experts at the meeting presented the harmful effects of alcohol to health; for instance, alcohol causes mental disorder and incurable diseases. Additionally, alcohol is the leading cause of family violence and social disorder.

Women and children are victims to suffer the consequence of alcohol abuse. Scientific studies showed that up to 80 percent of male in Ho Chi Minh City drink beer and over 13 percent of them drink every day. 

There have been many regulations to restrict alcohol consumption such as forbidding state-run company employees drink in the lunch time and the ban of  advertising for liquors as well as selling unoriginal products. 

However, authorities have not tightened the control of alcohol consumption, yet.
