Vietnam’s field hospital ready for UN’s peacekeeping mission in Sudan

Vietnam’s second-class field hospital with all equipment is ready to join the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, said Deputy Minister of Defense senior lieutenant-general Nguyen Chi Vinh on May 4.

The Deputy Minister yesterday checked preparation of the field hospital at the Military 175 hospital for the mission which is scheduled to take place in June. He also presided a meeting about force preparation for the future.
Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said that Vietnam’s field hospital passed the examination for the hospital in February. The UN’s inspection team spoke highly of the medical staff’s capacity believing that they will complete their mission in the African nation.
Also the UN’s inspection team arrived at conclusion that Vietnamese field hospital with enough equipment can operate in the South of Sudan. For the past years, Vietnam and the UN worked on the implementation of the field hospital. Both sides were on agreement on issues relating to force, equipment to fulfill the tasks.
The UN approved the hospital’s personnel list with 69 people including 63 official doctors and 6 backup medical workers in early April. The Ministry of Defense is finishing paper formalities to submit to the Prime Minister. The Vietnam’s Embassy in the UN was assigned to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on the basis of writing document between the Ministry and the UN.
The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department is working with Tan Cang Company, Military Hospital 175, the logistics agency of the UN and the Government of South Sudan to classify the commodities and complete the package in accordance with international transportation principals, said Colonel Hoang Kim Phung.  
Deputy director of the Military 175 hospital Colonel Tran Quoc Viet reported the preparation process for the field hospital.
Senior lieutenant-general Nguyen Chi Vinh spoke highly the Department, the Military 175 hospital and relevant agencies’ efforts in preparation of the hospital. He required all military units and medical military institution to closely work with the department for good preparation of the field hospital including training course, foreign language training and spiritual encouragement for soldiers who are going to be sent to Sudan
Before, he had a talk with medical workers and soldiers of the hospital affirming that joining in the UN’s peacekeeping mission is the Party and the government’s policy to enhance intensive and extensive international integration, especially in defense.
The operation of the field hospital is meaningful for the country’s military force improving the country’s image in the international friends’ eye; accordingly, Mr. Vinh encouraged medical worker soldiers to overcome difficulties to fulfill the assigned missions.
