Vietnam urges to prevent A/H5N6

The Ministry of Health  September 4 sent an urgent dispatch to the departments of health in the central provinces of Quang Tri and Quang Ngai, ordering to implement bird flu prevention measure immediately.

The Ministry of Health  September 4 sent an urgent dispatch to the departments of health in the central provinces of Quang Tri and Quang Ngai, ordering to implement bird flu prevention measure immediately.

As the two provinces' health departments have reported the dangerous bird flu virus A/H5N6 therefore, the Ministry has instructed health sector in the provinces to set up the prevention plan.

Accordingly, health sector should liaise with animal health sector and governments of the localities where have outbreaks of bird flu to disinfect and take samples for testing.

These responsible agencies are asked to strengthen supervision and observe the poultry business operation as well as breeding farms, aiming to discover timely new outbreaks to curb transmission to human.

Related agencies should tighten control over smuggled chicken and chicken products.

The residents who used to contact diseased or dead poultry are suffering breathing failure or severe pneumonia; they should go to hospital for treatment. Medical clinics must take samples for tests soon.

The Preventive Medicine Department of the two provinces must raise residents’ awareness of bird flu and transmission ways as well as encourage households not to eat diseased or dead waterfowls. On the other hand, residents should not eat half cooked chicken and consume unclear origin poultries.
