Vietnam makes WHO-standard flu vaccine

The Institute of Vaccine and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) is successful in making the World Health Organization standard influenza vaccine after four years of research and production, the Ministry of Health announced last week.

The IVACFLU-S vaccine will be made in a large amount to serve high demand in the country. It is able to prevent three usual flu virus including A/H1N1, A/H3N2 and flu B.

The Ministry also said that the clinical trials on animals proved to meet quality standards such as safety, immune response accordance with WHO’s recommend and Vietnam’s regulations.

With the success, IVAC proposed the Ministry to recognize its influenza vaccine production line with the productivity of 1.5 million dozes a year. It will supply a large amount of the vaccine to cope with mutation of new flu viruses.

Once approved for circulation, the vaccine will be priced at VND80,000-VND120,000 ($3.5 -$5.2) a doze, just equal to one third of its foreign-made kind.
