Two Nigerian passengers were discovered to have high fever by The Center for International Health Quarantine in Tan Son Nhat International Airport on August 19. They arrived in Vietnam from Quatar Airway’s flight. Immediately, they were isolated to test for deadly Ebola virus.
The center reported the cases to the city’s Preventive Medicine Department to implement measures. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, director of the Tropical Disease Hospital, said that the two Nigerian passengers were taken to the hospital’s quarantine room.
The hospital has taken their blood samples to send them for testing. They will be under close scrutiny within 21 days, said Mr. Chau.
Pasteur Institute August 19 said that it has sent the samples to the World Health Organization in Vietnam and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for testing. Pasteur Institute said that transportation and isolation procedures were all followed the Ministry’s instruction and like drill on August 17.
The Vietnam's branch of Geneva-based Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) has also sent dispatch to municipal and provincial departments of Forest Ranger asking to enhance fighting against Ebola virus disease through illegal trade and importing of wild animals.
It has also ordered units to raise wild animals to usually conduct disinfection and farm cleaning especially these farms raising African importer animals.
