This is a result of a study conducted by the National Maternity Hospital and the Medicine University in Hanoi on 14,300 couples in the reproductive age in eight provinces.
The rate of primary infertility and secondary infertility are 3.9 percent and 3.8 percent respectively in Vietnam or 700,000-1,000,000 childless couples whereas it fluctuate from 6 -12 percent for both primary and secondary infertility in the world.
The World Health Organization ranks infertility and childlessness as dangerous diseases just after cancer and heart disease. Vietnam’s birth rate has slumped to the lowest in the world whereas its infertility rate jumped to highest rate.
The seminar held by HOSREM and German Merck Serono yesterday in Ho Chi Minh City attracted 150 local and international experts in the field who shared and updated knowledge of maternity and reproduction.

Presenters at the event come from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Hongkong (China), Taiwan (China), India, Australia, Germany, Denmark and Vietnam.
