The Department of Preventive Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday said that the rate of vaccination for kids at 18 months is low.
At a meeting to review last year’s mission, representatives from the Department said that carrying out the guideline of the Ministry of Health and the municipal People Committee in providing free vaccine into medical facilities, medical workers have injected 62,590 free dozes of Quinvaxem vaccine in the national expanded immunization program in medical institutes so far.
Additionally, the rate of kids less than 12 month old is 94 percent, meeting the nation’s goal in free vaccination. Yet the rate of kids under 18 month is still low; for instance, the rate of measles vaccination is just 74 percent while the proportion of diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus is 54 percent respectively.
Moreover, the rate of pregnant women and girls of child-bearing age having tetanus is low also.
Last year, the Department reported 33 children having vaccination reaction including one serious case but no death.
