The hospital yesterday announced its first kidney transplant was success. Director of the hospital Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung said that the transplant was conducted on September 18 with the help of experts of the Military Hospital 103.

35 year old recipient Tran Van Dai, in Thai Nguyen city has been recovering twelve days after the operation. His twin brother Tran Van Phong donated a kidney to his brother. The cost of the surgery is over VND30 million (US$1,320)

The hospital success in organ transplant brings the number of hospitals which are able to perform organ transplant in the country to 15. The success gives an opportunity to people in the northern provinces, especially residents in northern mountainous districts.
 
At present, organ transplant demand is huge in the country. Around 6,000 people with kidney failure and hundred people with heart and lung failure are waiting for a transplant but there is a shortage of donated organs.
