Salmonella tainted milk powder not certified in Vietnam

After news that TwoBebes milk powder brand manufactured in the Netherlands might contain Salmonella, the Department of Food Administration in Vietnam was quick to confirm that this product had not yet been certified in the country.

The European Commission's Rapid Alert System for Food & Feed said that Netherland authorities had found that the milk powder contained a Korean-produced dietary fiber - Galacto-oligosaccharide, or GOS - that might have been Salmonella tainted.

Salmonella infection may cause fever and gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The effects on people with lower immunity, such as in infants and young children, could be more severe and sometimes may even lead to death.
