The Circular No.18/2018 to adjust and modify certain regulations in the Circular No. 52/2017 (on prescription and writing prescription in external treatment) of the Ministry of Health will be in effect from October 15.

Accordingly, the regulation on showing ID card when buying medicine for children under 6 years old will be canceled.

Instead, on the prescription for these children, it is only necessary to write the age, weight of the child as well as the parents’ or guardian’s name.

Before this, as said by the Circular No. 52/2017, when writing prescription, doctors had to ask for parents’ ID number and write on the prescription.

As said by the Ministry of Health, this action is to better manage the process of writing and preparing prescriptions, avoiding the popular mistaken action of overusing anti-biotic. Yet when going into effect, this regulation was widely protested by parents and the public or even doctors since they considered this as an unnecessary action.
