All provincial and city health departments will be able to license foreign-owned hospitals and medical clinics and issue work permits to foreign doctors if a proposal by the Ministry of Health gets the Vietnamese government’s blessing.
The ministry is also suggesting that doctors who want to work in private hospitals should only need to produce their medical diplomas to gain the permission.
At present, they must also furnish an employment certificate from a public hospital where they have worked if they want to switch to the private sector.
The idea will be passed around the relevant government agencies before any definite decision is made to ease the requirements.
