Thirty medical facilities in Ho Chi Minh City have agreed to join in the tuberculosis prevention program, said Nguyen Tan Binh, director of the Department of Health, at a meeting on March 19, to assess coordination between private and public hospitals in fighting the disease.
In 2011, with the support of PATH--an international nonprofit organization that transforms global health through innovative methods--residents in Districts 8, Binh Tan, Thu Duc and Binh Chanh came to private and public medical facilities to have check-ups, and receive free tuberculosis tests.
By joining hands, private and state hospitals have contributed greatly to early discovery of the disease resulting in a higher rate of people receiving treatment.
Last year, 12,672 people were tested and 3,950 of them were discovered to have bacterium and received gratis treatment.
