Outbreaks of cattle, poultry diseases in localities in Vietnam
Vietnam has been free from avian flu and foot and mouth in cattle for a few years; however, animal health watchdog reported outbreaks of bird flu in waterfowl flocks in the northern province of Quang Ninh and the highlands province of Dak Lak and foot and mouth disease in swine in Hanoi’s Ba Vi District which has spread to other localities in Hanoi.
Until now, the epidemic has spread to the northern provinces of Hoa Binh, Ha Nam and Bac Ninh and the central province of Ha TInh. According to local administrations, there have been 23 outbreaks of foot and mouth.
The Ministry has established working teams to affected localities to inspect. The cause of spreading diseases is local government’s neglectful behavior towards vaccination. Worse, administrations didn’t report the disease.
Animal drug companies have had 8.7 million dozen of foot and mouth vaccine available and they will buy additional 3.5 million dozen in the first quarter.
The Department has directed to make research on foot-and mouth gene which has caused disease to use proper vaccine.
