The Vietnamese Health Ministry received nearly VND 3 billion in aid for eliminating leprosy in 2006 from the Netherlands Leprosy Relief’s non-refundable grant.

The Ministry had previously stated that Viet Nam reached the target set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This target to eradicate leprosy was set by the WHO as part of their standard of wiping out the disease. This was to be carried out over ten years from 1995 to 2005.

To date, the rate of leprosy patients nationwide has been reduced from 0.7/10,000 to 0.1/10,000 inhabitants.

However, Viet Nam still struggles to completely rid the nation of this disease.
