The Preventive Medicine Department under the Ministry of Health yesterday officially announced a Korean man who suddenly died on June 10 in the northern province of Thanh Hoa at around 11PM tested negative for the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus.
According to the Preventive Medicine Department, the health emergency operation center was informed by Thanh Hoa province's preventive medicine center that a Korean man who is working in Nghi Son Economic Zone in Tinh Gia District died without clear reason.
Worse, he had contacted with a group of workers including two Korean men who just came from MERS-stricken South Korea to the Southeast Asian nation within 14 days.
Soon, medical workers of quick response teams in Thanh Hoa Province rushed to the house of the dead man for verification and carrying out necessary steps as per regulations.
Next day,medical workers from the Preventive Medicine Department and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) arrived in Thanh Hoa for further tests and instruction of quarantine.
Accordingly, these Korean men who have just come to Vietnam within less than 14 days were quarantined as per the regulation.
Medical workers of NIHE rushed to tests samples of the dead man and tests showed that he is negative for the deadly virus. Meantime, test results of these Korean men will be later.
The health authority asked these who just left South Korea for Vietnam must quarantine themselves at their homes. In case that they have symptoms of disease, they should inform to local health authority.
Vietnam has not had any infection case of MERS-CoV so far.
Meantime, South Korea yesterday confirmed four more cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus, bringing to 126 the total number of cases in the country of the often-deadly illness including 10 deaths.
Accordingly, 1,289 infection cases have been recorded in the globe including 454 fatalities in 26 countries since the disease occurred in September, 2012.
