Kids below five receive free vitamin A

The Institute of Nutrition in Ho Chi Minh City said toddlers from six to 36 month old will receive free vitamin A in local institutes of nutrition or medical facilities in wards in the city in two days June 1 and 2.

The distribution of vitamin A supplements helps preventing micronutrient deficiency, eradicating blindness due to vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A is needed by the retina of the eye and enhance ones’ resistance to infection
Accordingly, Director of the Institute of Nutrition Dr. Do Thi Ngoc Diep children under three need the vitamin for their growth. If a kid is not breastfed, or he is not supplied enough the vitamin in meals, they also have respiratory disease, diarrhea and measles, they easily lack the vitamin.
